Chat and relax with your friends down here. There are a couple of tables, chairs, a couch, and an armchair that one would suppose was found at a cheap yard sale.

Mabel staggered through the lodging house doors, dragging three oversized suitcases in her wake. The suitcases fell with a loud thunk to the floor boards as Mabel coughed and wheezed dramatically.
“The dust-…” She gasped to no one in particular, “Is going to kill me. I have a condition.” This was partially true- Mabel had conditioned herself to avoid areas where dust was in abundance.
Having finally caught her breath, Mabel gave her new “home” the once over. “It’s… nice.” She drawled, the disgusted expression on her face suggesting she felt the Lodging House was anything but “nice”.

Hawkeye's face was hidden behind a newspaper she was skimming. As usual, she was relaxing in her armchair, with her legs over the side of the arm. Her hair was down, and her hat had been placed on a nearby table, along with a roll that was missing a few bites and a half-filled cup of coffee.
At the sound of the crash, she jumped slightly, then leaned back to see what the source of the noise was. Upon finding it, she smirked a bit and called sarcastically, "Only nice? Personally, I think it's charming," she said, "Really delightful. Fit for royalty almost." She glanced down at the three suitcases, then mumbled, "Or for someone rich as royalty, I suppose that works too."

Mabel's eyes darted to the girl in the chair, "Oh, good evening. I'm Mabel Fitzpatrick. I wouldn't be surprised if you recognized the name. I mean, I would never brag about this sort of thing but-" She paused, a self-important smile tugging at her lips, "He's pretty well known. My dad, I mean"
She grinned for a few moments, waiting for realization to dawn on the girls face. Suffice it to say it never happened. Mabel shifted her weight to one foot, awkwardly ringing her hands. "I'm sorry- I didn't catch your name."

Hawkeye arched an eyebrow, a blank look on her face, not quite sure as to whether or not the girl was serious. Finally, she put down her newspaper, and pushed herself out of the chair. Slowly walking around it, she gave Mabel the "once over," before resting her hands on her hips and answering with, "Hawkeye Sheretti, and I'll be very impressed if you do recognize the name."
She glanced at the suitcases again, then said, "This is sort of a ratty thing to say, but you seem to have landed yourself in the wrong place," she headed back toward her chair and grabbed her cup of coffee, taking a small sip before continuing, "If you want, I can give you directions to an inn, or something...?" She trailed off, looking to Mabel for an answer.

Mabel's outstretched hand went unnoticed to the girl named Hawkeye who had now returned to her arm chair. "Hawkeye? That's an... odd name." The remark came across more indignant than Mabel had originally planned but her patience was running short.
Mabel smoothed invisible wrinkles from her blue dress with frilly white trimming, "No. This is the Bronx Lodging House, is it not? This is where I'm meant to be." She sighed heavily, "Unfortunately."
Mabel placed her hands on her hips, "Look-... who should I talk to about boarding? While this conversation has been all together thrilling I really must get myself settled. And I'll need my bags taken to my room."
Mabel ran a gloved finger across the front desk, scrunching her nose in disapproval at the layer of dust. "Gracious, what kind of place is this?" She muttered under her breath.

Hawkeye shrugged at Mabel's comment about her name, "'S not all that odd 'round these parts, you'll find."
She raised her eyebrows upon finding that this was where she had intended to come, "Er, yes, it is," she said. She took another sip of coffee, before walking to the desk, "I'll help you out with boarding," she smirked slightly, "As for getting your bags up to your room, I wish you the best of luck getting them up the stairs. Try not to fall."

The prospect of getting the three suitcases up the stairs was daunting to say the least. Mabel wasn't one for heavy lifting. Her arms were prone to swaying in the lightest of breezes.
"Right. Yes, well-... wait, are you the one in charge of the lodging house? Isn't there a manager I could speak to? I cannot fathom that such an institution, be it as it may, would be self run."
The more Mabel spoke the more glaringly apparent it became: she was just about as far out of her element as any one person could be.

Hawkeye leaned back against the wall behind the desk, folding her arms across her chest, "I'm in charge of the borough, if that's what you mean. The building is owned by someone else. He pops in once or twice a week to pick up boarding money. He'll probably be in in four days or so. You can wait until then to sign-in, if you like, but you'd have to find somewhere else to stay for the next couple of days." She gave her an apologetic shrug, "Sorry," but the expression on her face was more amused than sorry.

Mabel threw her hands up in a mix of exasperation and defeat, "No. No. I'll just check in now. I'm sure you are... more than qualified. Is there something I need to sign?"
Though the amused expression on Hawkeye's face left her feeling sour, Mabel was in no position to be making enemies... even if she was surprisingly good at it.

Temp, who had been listening at the top of the stairs couldn't help but snicker. Hawk was being oh so nice to this poor girl. Tempest knew this girl was outta place being here and all. She looked dreadfully uncomfortable. Temp, making up her mind to go make an entrance before enimes were made. "Is that your warm welcome I hear Hawk?" She called hopping down the stairs.

Hawkeye grinned and reached into one of the desk drawers and pulled out the sign-in book for the lodging house and passed it and a pen to Mabel. She hesitated, then said, "I can fill it in for you if you'd like." Though she had a feeling that Mabel could write perfectly well, she figured she'd offer anyway. There were a good amount of news-kids who couldn't write, so Hawkeye had filled in quite a few, which would explain the swirly, cursive hand-writing down the page. She hadn't cared for boarding school, but she was thankful for her neat penmanship.
She looked up upon noticing the new arrival to the conversation. "Oh," she said, "...Hi...you..." she gave her a half smile, then leaned over the book she had passed to Mabel, quickly scanning the page for a name- she had never been particularly good with remembering people. Pretending that she was helping Mabel, Hawkeye pointed to the only blank sign-in spot on the page and announced, "Ah, here looks good."

Mabel glanced up from the sign-in book, "What? Oh, no thank-you. I always did like school..." The mumbled the last bit. She hoped desperately that her family's financial problems were solved quickly so that she could go on to university.
Mabel meticulously wrote her name, briefly glancing up at the girl who'd come down the stairs. "There." She passed the pen back to Hawkeye with the sign-in book.

Hawkeye took the book, putting it back in the drawer she had taken it from. "Alright," she said, "You're all set. The bunk room is on your right when you go up the stairs. Just find a free bed and it's yours," she eyed the suitcases, a small smirk playing on her lips, "Or perhaps you should look for several free beds." She was kidding, obviously, but on a more authoritative note, added, "If you have a question or need help with anything, feel free to ask."
